Save the dates – Texas primaries, election day March 2.  Early voting February 16 through February 26.

Friends: This is a personal request for you to vote in this year’s primary elections – election day is Texas Independence Day – Tuesday, March 2.  (which, by the way, is also the day that our Founder, John Wagler, was born) Be a good Texan and a great citizen—get out and vote!

Early voting is also available – beginning February 16 and ending February 26.  I plan post a follow-up article with early voting polling locations in an attempt to make it a bit easier for those willing to step forward and have your voices heard.

I will share with you the name of one candidate I’m supporting that I hold in high regard.  He will see his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney (prosecutor) for Collin County expire as he seeks to step forward in order to better serve the Collin County Community as Judge of the 219th Disctrict Court.

Scott J. Becker

Scott J. Becker– running for Collin County Judge (219th District Court).  Operating on a platform that will more greatly engage and protect the families of Collin County. Scott is a hard-working, knowledgeable man of integrity. He is endorsed by several of the largest law enforcement associations in Collin County and possesses all of the requirements for the job description of the court.  Scott Becker is a perfect fit for the 219th Judicial District Court.

Becker for JudgeI strongly support Scott Becker, given his proven public service record, putting community over self, commitment to family, dedication to improving our communities, focus on fairness, and providing public safety to all citizens in the area.

I’ll ask you to consider voting for Scott Becker, with whom I am closely affiliated and I am confident will represent us well.

The Ryan Gibson Foundation’s 8th Annual Crown Ball

Crown BallThis Saturday past marked the 8th Annual Crown Ball for the Dallas chapter of The Ryan Gibson Foundation. This year’s “medieval themed party with a modern touch” was bigger and better than ever! The event chairs, including Third Power’s John Wagler, and volunteers converted the Ball’s Dragon Street venue, Marc Events, into a Purple and Gold extravaganza. More than 250 guests celebrated til late in the evening—dancing to the rhythmic mixes of Jeff Mitchell, resident DJ at the Ghost Bar in Dallas. Many were able to participate in the Silent Auction that featured jewelry, artwork, sports memorabilia, restaurant certificates, spa/salon treatments, and a guitar autographed by Willie Nelson.

The event also featured presentations by the Foundation’s President, Scott “Hook” Harmeling, as well as Dr. Pier Scaglioni, of the University of Texas Southwestern. Mr. Harmeling addressed the guests on the State of the Foundation while Dr. Scaglioni spoke briefly on the advances his team continues to make in Myeloid Leukemia research. To date, the Ryan Gibson Foundation has proudly contributed a total of $100,000 to UT Southwestern for Lukemia research. The Crown Ball is just one of the organization’s many fun-filled events that helps to fund this research as well as other related causes.

5th Annual Fruit of the Vine Gala

Kids Matter International (KMI) hosted the Fifth Annual Fruit of the Vine Gala on Friday, February 20th, at the Southlake Town Square Hilton. Third Power Group joined more than 350 guests in helping to raise more than $300,000 to fund programs including The Lighthouse Home for Girls in Roatan, Honduras, the Northcare Foundation’s Clothe-A-Child program, and the Spokes 4 Hope Annual Bicycle Drive.

The black-tie event featured a live performance by Emerald City, a raffle drawing for a new BMW 528i, as well as a live and silent auction which included a trip to Roatan, Honduras on a private jet, and a limited edition Swarovski crystal basketball autographed by Dirk Nowitski of the Dallas Mavericks. Of the many highlights of the evening, the guests seemed most touched by a special, last-minute presentation from KMI. The organization presented a check to local Cub Scouts Pack 321 to replace a stolen trailer full of pinewood derby materials, camping supplies and other items—all of which were paid for from funds raised from the young Scouts.

Our hats are off to the folks at Kids Matter International, and all of the volunteers and contributors, for organizing such a wonderful event. The Third Power family was proud to participate as a sponsor and vital volunteer for the gala and we look forward to our continued relationship with Kids Matter International. Together we can all make a difference.

Reflections 2008

A look back at some of the people and events that shaped 2008

It’s hard to believe that we are already into the 2nd month of the New Year. But before we introduce some of the new organizations and events that we plan on sponsoring this year, we’d like to take a moment to recognize some of the people and events that shaped our 2008.

RCC Golf ClassicThere’s nothing we enjoy more than the opportunity to support the charitable organizations of our partners and participants — especially when the event takes place on a sunny afternoon at the course. This year we participated in several golf outings that benefited both local and national organizations including the ProPlayers Foundation Golf Classic, the 21st Annual Richardson Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic (with Dave Peters of Third Power’s Advisory Board), the Cornerstone Youth Golf Tournament, and finally, the 25th Annual Kiwanis Klassic Golf Tournament.

But long after the memories of searching for misdirected golf balls have faded; and the pain from our swing, or watching the swing of a few of our colleagues has subsided, there were a few other events that will soon not be forgotten. The NorthCare Foundation hosted its annual Gala event for its Clothe-A-Child Program, and Third Power was there in full support. Celebrating its 20th year of its grass roots efforts, the organization had its best year ever, even in one of history’s worst economies. Enough funds were raised to clothe over 1100 children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Change was a resounding theme politically in the later part of 2008, and for us here at Third Power, we are hard pressed to think of a more life-changing event then our visit to Roatan Island in Honduras. We traveled to the Island with Joe King, President and CEO of Kids Matter International (KMI), to visit the future site of the KMI Empowerment Center for Children in Crisis. In Honduras, and especially Roatan, the immense need for nurturing the plight of abused and abandoned girls that was once ignored is now being recognized and addressed by KMI — and we couldn’t be happier to be active participants and supporters in the development of this center.

In closing, we’d like to thank all of our participants, friends and partners for their support in 2008 and we look forward to sharing our continued success with you in 2009.
